And we are down to 5 months!!

We have hit the 5 month mark! That may not seem like a big deal to you but it is to me! I know I said in an earlier post that I wasn't going to count down to the big day but it isn't easy! To justify it I am only counting months, I have not started counting days..yet :)

Everything has been going so great!! A lot has happened since I last blogged about the wedding. Colors have been picked out! I have found a wedding dress and i am IN LOVE! It is perfect!! I can't wait for everyone to see it!! All the bridesmaid dresses have been ordered, suits have been decided on, along with the ties for the groomsmen!

We went ahead and ordered the napkins and invitations and they both have arrived! It is so exciting to get things like that in the mail! The invitation made it feel so real that I was actually marrying Adam Tait on May 26th!!  The reception has been planned out and the food that we are serving has been chosen. I feel like all the major stuff is done, (minus the fact that I can't decide who I want to do our cakes. If you have a suggestion let me know) now we are down to just the little details! That's a good thing to me because my planning book says to have it all done by the 6 month mark!

Adam and I took engagement pictures back in November and we have ordered a few of those! They turned out great! I am in love with our photographer, Wendy Wilson!
This is one of our favorite pictures from the engagement session!
I am not sure if other engaged couples are like us but we loved registering for things for our home! I felt like we registered for everything in every store we went in but everyone has been telling me that is a good thing...people like variety:) Can you believe we have already had our first wedding shower? I know, crazy! I have some of the sweetest friends in the world. Johanna came all the way from Illinois to host the shower for me! Johanna, Hilary, and Elizabeth thank you so much for hosting the first shower! Y'all are the best!
-I plan on posting pictures and more details from the shower. It was too great not to share!!

While I was home for Christmas I got a few smaller things accomplished. Mom had a list of things for us to do and I think we have just about crossed off everything!

Have a great New Year! Exciting things to come!!

Christmas Memories

This Christmas has been wonderful, and it is not over yet! We aren't officially having our family Christmas until the 30th. But so far it has been a Christmas to remember!

I wanted to recap the last couple of days!

I headed home Christmas Eve, I don't think my car could get me to Toxey fast enough. We have a Christmas Eve tradition at my house, which consist of basically whoever that wants to stop by does and we all eat boiled shrimp-per my grandmother's request, shrimp is her favorite!

These cuties helped me...
cut out Christmas shapes! We had so much fun!

Christmas Eve at Mammie's house! (What the girls call my mom)
These four have my heart!

My mom and I had gotten up early Christmas morning and made our rounds to the little ones house to see what Santa had brought. Santa wasn't stoping at my house until Adam arrived!

Christmas Morning Coffee Date with my grandmother!!

Christmas Day was wonderful..full of laughs, family and making memories.

Adam came to Toxey Christmas Day. I could not wait for him to get here. This will be our last major holiday we spend apart, thank goodness! (PS: we are down to the 5 month mark before the big day. Wedding planning is moving right along. A wedding post update is coming in the near future.) I could not wait for him to get to my house! All is right when Adam is with me.

Santa was good to Adam and I! We got a TV for the house!!

Santa brought me a sewing machine! I have made my first pillow.
I can't wait to dive into the sewing world!

Adam also surprised me with this adorable necklace and a Michael Kors watch!

We are beyond blessed. We have so much to be thankful for. It is so nice to be with family and to make memories this time of year. I pray we never take that for grated. I pray we always remember the true reason we celebrate Christmas. It is about Jesus Christ. It is about how He came to this world, fully God and fully man. He came to die on the cross, so that we may have eternal life. He is the real reason for the season.
Never Forget..
This picture blessed my heart.
We told the girls they could decorate the Rice Krispy Treat however they would like.
We came back and this is what they had written.

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
Luke 2:11-14

Thankful for Today

We are currently headed back to Mobile, well I am riding..Adam is driving! Avett is turned up on the radio and we are singing so loud, I love moments like this with my future husband!
I have been working at Tanner's Pecan and Gifts while ERD was out for Thanksgiving..as soon as I got off yesterday we loaded up and headed to Toxey! I love nothing more than getting to spend holidays with my family, especially Thanksgiving!
If you have never been to Toxey or a small town like it, I'm talking a town of 250 people max, you may not understand my love for home! I love getting to go home and people just stopping by because they see my car in the drive way. I love the fact that there are acres after acres behind my house where we can ride four wheelers. I love my small town. I love the fact that there is no red light or even a working caution light. I love that all my immediate family lives less than a mile from each other and they wouldn't have it any other way. Adam has been home with me several times but this time he got to experience some true country fun..he got to experience some of the same things I grew up experiencing! If you didn't know, Adam is a total city boy. If it isn't on Dauphin Street he most likely hasn't done it, which is totally ok with me, it makes him who he is and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Before our family came over last night Adam got to have a "first" experience! He rode and even drove his first four wheeler, I was so proud! Ha
We rode all down in the pasture behind my house and had the best time! The pictures you see or just some quick shots I took from my iPhone! Sorry for the blurriness!
We had our family over last night for Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's house. My favorite part was watching my 84 year old sweet grandmother making homemade dumplings. She is simply amazing! It makes my heart so happy to see Adam love my family and my family love him right back!

Adam has also never been hunting or shot a gun! My cousin Ken made sure he ended that! Today we woke up, watched the Macy Thanksgiving Parade, ate way to much..again, then headed to the woods! We totally weren't prepared for this so the camouflage you see in the picture is just some old stuff we found at my house! We may have looked ridiculous but we had the best time, even though we didn't see a thing and sat in total silence for about 3 hours. Adam was definitely a trooper!
I have seen so many "Thankful" post today on Twitter and Facebook and they are all great. If I had to say one thing I was thankful for it would be for yesterday and today. I am thankful that exactly 2 years ago God saw it fit to bring Adam Tait into my life. I am thankful for my precious mother and the sacrifices she has made for me. I am thankful for my family and the closeness we have. I am thankful for my hometown. No matter where I ever live, Toxey will always be home and I am thankful for simply that.
Happy Thanksgiving!!

PS: Sorry these pictures are awful quality and way out of order!

Why are we getting married so young?

Adam loves Christian Rap music, I personally do not. I guess this is just one of the many things we will have to compromise on when we get married! An artist that Adam listens to is Trip Lee. Just like Adam and I, Trip Lee got married very young. He recently wrote about this topic on his blog. Adam sent the article to me and I was blown away. It reminds me of our relationship and journey in every way. We have been asked several times, "Why are you getting married so young?" or "Do you really think y'all are ready for marriage?" Trip Lee answers these questions in his blog. I wanted to repost his blog on my blog to share it with all my readers!

Trip Lee writes...

Yesterday I made a late night stop at the store to grab a few things and I had a very interesting conversation with the cashier. We made small talk as she scanned my items, and then she offered me a discount card but I told her my wife already had one. That’s when the conversation got fun. I know this conversation all too well because I’ve had it many times before. It goes something like this…
Person: What!? You’re married?
Me: Yeah I’ve been married for two and a half amazing years.
Person: How old are you? You look like a baby.
Me: I’m twenty three.
Person: You’re so young! Why in the world would you do that?
Me: Why wouldn’t I?
In 2009, I got married at the barely legal and barely respectable age of twenty one years old. During my courtship, engagement, and short marriage, I’ve been asked time and time again questions like, “Why get married so young? What’s the rush?”, and my personal favorite, “You should have waited and enjoyed your life!”
Some of the folks asking these questions were strangers, but some were family. Was I crazy to get married at such a “young” age?
Well let me give you three reasons I decided to get married when I did.
1. I met a godly woman
As an eighteen year-old freshman in Bible college, I wasn’t actively looking for a wife, but God saw fit to introduce me to a young woman after his heart. She was beautiful, but more importantly she loved Jesus. She was aware that she was a sinner in need of God’s grace, and she had a humble, teachable heart. We ended up being part of the same church, so I got to watch her serve, grow, and faithfully give her time to others. I began to talk to my inner circle about her. My friends, mentors, and pastors all agreed - she is a beast! I could see myself walking with her and loving her for the rest of my life.
2. I was ready
By this time I began to think about the reality of marriage and what it means to commit yourself to someone for a lifetime. I asked myself whether or not I was mature and responsible enough. I searched through the Scriptures and thought about the responsibilities of a husband, and talked to married friends and mentors. After lots of prayer and conversation, my mentors and the pastors in my church told me they thought I was ready to pursue her. I was like, “Amen!” But I would not have pursued her if I thought I was not prepared to spiritually lead her, provide for her, and to be the head of a family.
3. Marriage is a blessing
At first I felt like I had to prove to the naysayers that getting married young is ok sometimes. But when I looked in the Scriptures I didn’t find stuff like, “Marriage equals death! Flee from it!” or, “Put marriage off until you can’t put it off any longer,” or, “Only get married when you’re too old to enjoy life,” or, “Play the field for a while and then pick the best one.”
Instead I found commands like, “Flee youthful lust”, and I read passages like Proverbs18:22 that says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.”
So when people say, “What possessed you to get married so young?” my new response is, “You’re asking the wrong question.” I think at the root of that question is the assumption that marriage steals something away from me, as if my youth is being wasted in committed sacrificial love when it could be used for casual pleasure and flakiness.
Marriage is a beautiful gift from God! It is a means of grace. I found a wife, and that is a good thing. I don’t agree with the logic that says, put off God’s richest blessings as long as you can. Instead I would say enjoy God’s good gifts and steward them for His glory.
This is not to say that everyone should get married when I did. It would have gone bad if I would have tried to get married before I was ready. Some of us do need to mature more, and others of us need to pray for contentment and trust the Lord and His timing. My goal is not to say that the younger you get married, the more holy you are. I just want to dispel the myth that we should delay adulthood and we should only consider marriage when we are thirty and older.
No Regrets
Last night on twitter someone asked me if I regret getting married so young. My answer? Absolutely not.
It’s one of the best decisions I ever made. I’m happier and holier than I was two and a half years ago, and that’s a good thing. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m some super rare anomaly. I know plenty of folks who got married just as young or younger than me. They too saw marriage as a gift and they’ve seen the fruit of that gift. Me and my wife may be young now, but I’m praying for grace to love my wife well until the end of our lives. Until then I want to obey the wisdom of the Proverbs and “rejoice in the wife of my youth.”

Best Friends and Bridesmaids

I just sent out this card to the eight girls I want/need standing right there beside me on our special day. I could not imagine life without them. They are my best friends, sisters, encouragers, advice givers, they let me know when I do something dumb and cheer me on through big events. Some I have known since birth and some I met in college. I love each of you so much and am honored to have y'all with me!

I think I can speak for Adam when it comes to this subject. His groomsmen are Godly men who mentor him and teach him new and different things all the time. These people have been with us through good and bad. We love you all so much! Thank you for sharing and standing beside us on our wedding day.

Wedding Updates

Wedding planning has quickly jumped to the top of my to do list and I could not be more thrilled. I am so excited for what is to come. In a little over 7 months I will be Mrs. Adam Tait (can you believe it?). I am trying not to count down the days, atleast not yet. I want to enjoy this stage and not just be in a constant count down. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely can not wait for that day but I also want to enjoy where we are in our lives right now!

I am going to try and blog several times about wedding details before the Big Day! I want to be able to look back and remember the days of wedding planning. I will try my hardest not to turn this into all things wedding but you may just have to bare with me for a few months!

Adam was out of town this past weekend so that gave me the perfect opportunity to head home on Friday afternoon! As soon as I got home my mom and I started flipping through magazines, books and making decisions on some other things. I had so much fun with her! My Yvonne (she is my Godmother, also can be called another Grandmother) came over Saturday night and we did the same thing. I enjoyed being home so much! I got to share my excitment with two of my best friends and some of my family who was not able to make it to Mobile the night of the engagement!

We have set a date: May 26, 2012 at 4:00 pm. We will be getting married and having the reception at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, AL. Our good friend, Mat Alexander, will be preaching the wedding. Kozy Kutz Florist, from my hometown, will be doing all the flowers, (So excited to work with you Katie. We are going to have so much fun!). Selena Adams, will be the wedding coordinator/director. We have a meeting in two weeks with a photographer. Wendy Wilson is a local photographer from here in Mobile. I have heard great things about her and her work. From what I have seen she takes great pictures. Go check her website out, http://www.wendywilsonphoto.com/.

I still have many, many things to do and decide but this is a start. Thank you so much for all the sweet comments! We truly have the best family and friends anyone could ask for!

Pinterest

I have a small obsession with Pinterest! If you haven't joined in on the fun you must start right away! It is a great way to get ideas. I have been looking for a wreath for my back door! Fall is absolutely my favorite season so I could not wait to get a wreath, mums, and a pumpkin!
Here are a few of my favorites that I found..

I went with the last one!! It was my favorite for the season!

My mom was with me this past Friday and Saturday for a little birthday celebration and Market in Jackson, MS on Saturday! After we left market we headed to Hobby Lobby to get the supplies! I used a styrofoam/floral foam wreath, one package of moss, pumpkins, burlap, and a hot glue gun!! It was really simple and took about an hour! Here is the finished project! Let me know what you think!
420 McKeough Avenue is officially ready for Fall!!

Life Lately

I feel like I haven't blogged in forever!! There has just not been that much going on lately, nothing too exciting or really worth reading!! Right now it is currently raining so hard! It has been raining all weekend here in Mobile due to Tropical Storm Lee.

I recently finished up a three week interim at E.R. Dickson Elementary (also the school where I student taught) in kindergarten. I love this school. The teachers, staff, and students have won my heart! I feel like it's home and everyone is family. E.R. Dickson has some of the best teachers and staff in Mobile County! I never thought I would get so attached to 17 five year olds. BUT let me just say I did! I did not want to hand the classroom back over to the teacher! I have never really been in the kindergarten setting so I was nervous going into the job. The teacher was gone for the first three weeks of school so I was responsible for starting the school year off and getting the students into a school routine! I am not sure who was more nervous on the first day, me or the students? Probably me! ERD is a school with over 900 students. I was most concerned with getting all my little ones home. They either went home in a car, which meant they are a certain number, bus rider, which meant they were a certain bus number and color, van rider, or walker! I was so worried that one of my kiddos were going to get on the wrong bus but thankful it did not happen! We survived the day and all got home safe and sound! I quickly began to learn each student! What they liked and disliked, who brought a lunch box and who ate in the cafeteria, who need extra help and who was independent, who could sit still and who liked to talk, and who needed an extra little hug. They learned all about me quickly too, always asking questions! Most thought I lived at the school:) I had the privilege to be their "first" teacher at ERD and for that I am so thankful! Starting kindergarten has so many first time experiences and I got to teach and share each and every experience with these 17 kindergarteners! It was the first time to go to the cafeteria, to hold a tray and at the same time try your hardest not to spill it! It was the first time to get to go to P.E.-something they looked forward to every day!! It was the first time some of them had been away from home that long! One little girl told me every so often that she really did love school but just missed her mommy! The moments like that were my favorite! I would give her a hug and assure her that the school day was almost over! This past Friday was a sad day! At 3:45 the "real" classroom teacher met me and I handed over the keys! I already miss those 17 cute things! Honestly some days they drove me crazy and I had never heard my name called more than I did just one day teaching kindergarten! BUT I loved it and would not traded my experience for the world.

At the beginning of the school year I did not understand why I did not have a classroom of my own. Yes I graduated and yes I got my degree. So why could I not find a job? It is a question that hurt and was confusing. I had worked so hard in college only to graduate and not find a job. But God saw the bigger picture while I only saw the right now. God has reassured this to me so many times since school started. He has a plan for my life and getting a teaching job right after college was not part of the plan. God has miraculously worked out every single detail. I finished up my three week interim Friday and got a call that day from another principal asking if I could start Tuesday doing an interim for her! Another example of God's perfect timing. After that interim is completed I have another one lined up then even another one after that! God is so good!

I am also the new Cheerleading Coach at the University of Mobile! I will be forever thankful for UM. I never in a million years thought I would one day be working with the cheerleaders at UM but I am so excited for what is to come! Rachel Tillman is the captain this year! She is amazing! We held tryouts this past weekend-huge success! The girls that participated in try outs are so talented. They are great girls, inside and out!

On a different note, Adam and I traveled back to my home church this past Wednesday night. They are currently looking for a pastor and asked Adam to come and speak. I was nervous for him and excited. I loved sitting in the pew listening to Adam preach God's word! Lord willing that will not be my last time to get to experience Adam preaching!

I can't believe it is already September! August flew by but that is ok with me! I love everything that September brings: new school year, football, and my favorite season Fall!
Things are great in Mobile! My mom, cousin and her two little girls are coming to  visit next weekend and I am so excited! That will be the thing that gets me through the work week, oh and the fact that its a four day week!
Have a great Labor Day!

Crazy Fun Week

First off let me say I promise not to recap every week of my life for you in my blog but this one I wanted to share!  Not a whole lot normally happens during a week. It is usally the same routine, which I am thankful for simply because I am a planner and like a schedule! This week has somewhat been a little different. It was the same because of work but different because we had so much going on. It started by last weekend going to Atlanta for market with my mom and Adam!

Market is where Mom goes and buys all the cute stuff for her store! (She has a facebook page-go "like" it..The Berry Patch) We had so much fun! I love getting to spend time with my mom and with Adam being there it made it all the better! Just wanted to share a few pictures from our fun weekend!

This is one of the three building that make up "Market"!

We took in a braves game while we were there!

We had great seats at the game.  We walked to  very top to see the view! So gorgeous!

On Sunday we went to church that morning then had some ribs at this fantastic place.
If you are ever in Atlanta it is a MUST that you go there. Great food and great atmosphere!

The ribs were delicious!

I  started a new Bible Study this week with some precious ladies. We are meeting on Tuesday nights for our study and just some great fellowship. I am so blessed to have ladies like this in my life! The study we are doing is Mary Kassian's, "Knowing God by Name", and so far it has been wonderful.

At church on Wednesday nights I teach 1st-3rd grade. This Wednesday was a little different! We had a water night for the children and it was a blast! These kids bless my heart!

Thursday morning I found out some news that was not so pleasant. Just know that God is always at work in our lives, even when we don't understand. I am resting on the fact that God ALWAYS provides and His will for my life will be done. I could not to even start to complain (even though I definitely felt like it) simply because I am so blessed and have SO much to be thankful for. And if your just dying to know my day got better by the hour!!

One of my favorite verses in scripture..
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Last night (Thursday) we went across the bay to Perdido Key to see our good friends Mat and Whitney Alexander. We had fun getting to visit with them and catch up on life! They are such a fun couple and a great example for me and Adam. Love yall sweet friends!

Thankfully today is Friday and of course we have a full weekend planned! I Hope you have a fantastic weekend as well!!
